I had Val and Mouse over last night--Houseboat--to watch Star Wars: A New Hope and eat pizza. I've got pirated copies of the originals, so none of that whole "Hans Shoot Second" crap. Earlier, Mouse and I had been in the park discussing what it is to be garou. I remembered much of what Brigid told me from ages back when we were dating, and what Mouse had to say seems remarkably similar. I guess there's not much difference between tribal interpretations. What we did talk about more that Brigid hadn't clued me in on was the expectations for kinfolk, so I can better pass myself off as being one.
Right about then, Rina showed up. I hadn't seen her in a long damn time. Mouse introduced her as being family, and holy shit, she's Glass Walker kin. (And then Mouse introduced me as being Walker kin.) I'd known her since I was in high school and had absolutely no clue whatsoever. Mouse had said there were "a lot" of garou in the area, so I guess there must also a lot of kinfolk. Who else do I know who's kin? This is crazy. There was a bit of a pucker factor at one point where Mouse introduced me as being newly found kinfolk, because neither of us had determined /how/ I was found. But Rina didn't pry, so... whew. She left shortly after she arrived, so.... Whew.
I later talked to Mouse about what to use as cover, and she said she'd claim that she'd found me while doing some genealogical research into a family that'd been out in Spokane. (I guess there's something big with the Glass Walkers out that way?) Val showed up then, so the subject was dropped. But I definitely need to work out with her how the "Hi, I believe you're Walker kinfolk" meeting theoretically went between us, in case anyone asks so we've got our story straight. Also of note, Mouse apparently told Salem about "adopting" me into the tribe. Salem's one of the few other garou who knows that I can bend reality, and who could blow the whole thing wide open if he wanted, but... Mouse said he had zero objections. Wow. I guess I've made a good impression on them? That or this is all a well-orchestrated plot of some sort, but I'm still going to hold some cards close to my chest: I have to to protect the scant few others mages like myself. Simultaneously, I also need to be respectful to the garou's secrets, too.
I need to talk to Val and see about trying to persuade her to help out the young Cat that the Glass Walkers are currently harboring. I can certainly understand the reluctance of a bird-shifter to aid a cat-shifter, but.... Maybe I should just keep my nose out of stuff I have no background in, but it seems like making a good first impression might do Val good in mending old bridges, and it would certainly do the Cat a world of good.
