Val wanted to hit Plasticorp tonight, so off we went a little after midnight. The witching hour. We did a drive-by, then I parked the car about a block and a half away, out of sight of the building. Val turned into a raven and flew out the car's window. I sealed the car up, reached out with some correspondence and forces, and unlatched and opened a window so when she arrived she could go straight in. I followed Val in. There was the office with the computer: All Val had to do was enter the login and password I'd gotten for her and.... wait. Why is she leaving the room? Hey!

Then I noticed something move as Val left the room. I swirled in some Prime to see if it was supernatural and saw something small radiating magic and following Val. I bridge the gap between the thing and my pen taser, then discharged it--right as Val, now in her war-raven form, turned on the lights. *ZART!*

I tased a sparrow. *facepalm*

But it had a piece of paper glued to its breast--a piece of paper similar to what Rajani had give to Val the day before. Val scooped it up and put it on her shoulder. I checked it for spiritual corruption, but it was clean. Was this a spy Rajani had created? Or was it something crafted by the bane that Rajani was hunting from her area of the world, and this trick is commonplace there?

Val made her way down some stairs to a door. (Hey! Val! Computer! Behind you! Passwords and everything! ARGH!!! *headdesk! headdesk! headdesk!*) Red light coming from beneath this door. Voices inside. She listened at the door. I passed through the door to take a peek. The room had Mr. Blond (melty-face guy), Dan Perry (PR guy for Plasticorp), and a half-man-half-crab monstrosity with pincers (ew? Maybe this thing was what tore the hospital doors down?) Weirdly enough, Mr. Blond speaks with a female voice. (Is Wellsworth dead, replaced by the changeling, Mr. Blond?) Blond(e) was reprimanding Perry, apparently for "playing with" (killing) a guy on the floor that looked like a bum. The homeless guy had a big hole in his chest, but I saw no immediately obvious weapon. Then Blond stopped talking, raised a hand, looked at the ceiling (I checked and there was nothing there but pipes and ceiling), then slowly turned to look at the door. BUSTED!

I used a Mind effect to urge Val--who likely couldn't see any of this--to RUN! She bolted. And I mean /bolted./ She grabbed the sparrow on the way up the stairs--bouncing off the walls on the way. (I should have dialed that subliminal impulse down a notch or two. That or she was already primed to bolt.) Right about this time, I suddenly sensed a presence in the car with me, very briefly, and then it withdrew back towards Plasticorp. It was like ice water splashing down my back. Fuuuuuuuck. Let's get the hell out of here!

Val dove out the window with the sparrow, pursuit noises coming from down below. I stopped scrying, started the car up, rolled the passenger window down, and cruised slowly down the block so we could make a quick rolling getaway in case there were any pursuers. Val didn't show, though. I made an illegal U-turn right before the intersection and went the opposite way down the block. Again, I got to the intersection and did an illegal u-turn as Val was nowhere to be seen. I was debating this being the final pass before cutting out when Val came in through the window and dropped a slightly scorched origami bird on the seat. Ah ha. So it wasn't a sparrow I tased. I drove us away from the area, towards midtown, and doubled back a few times to throw off any physical tails and parked twice to scan for any magical tails. Looked like we were in the clear. I debated calling Mouse or Salem up and asking if we could crash in the safehouse--that'd be serious protection--but then I thought better of it. Don't want to expose myself and don't want to risk bringing something ugly to their doorstep. Instead, to be on the safe side, we ditched the car about three blocks from the marina, walked the rest of the way to my houseboat, cast off, and dropped anchor in a sheltered cove on the east side of the river. I broke out the shotgun and Val and I alternated in catching some sleep. While Val slept, I worked on re-establishing the warding for the houseboat. This time, it'll let me know if something in the spirit world comes by and make it harder for scrying magic to find me. I think I might put the Toyota MR2 in storage and fall back to my motorbike for a while--just in case.

My turn to sleep.

Weird dream. The plastic, human-looking statue in that upstairs office? Wellsworth's body was encased in it.
