I caved and went back to my Toyota MR2 today. It's just too weird driving a motorbike in this weather, even if it's not really chilling me. I don't think whatever is in Plasticorp is capable of tailing the vehicle Val and I used to make our getaway from a block away from the place. I checked it over for a car bomb/tracker just in case. Clean. Also, since I'd had Mouse over the other night and she'd been out of sight for a little bit, I checked the houseboat for bugs. Clean. I like clean, and I like that Mouse doesn't snoop.
I went to Wal-Mart this morning to buy some new mooring ropes for the boat and ran into Sera perusing the auto parts/supplies aisle. I thanked her for helping out the other day with discovering that Izzy's mom was alive and getting a direction she was in. She seemed reluctant to be around me, mentioned Mouse had told her to minimize contact. I probed a bit for more information about how the garou can find people like that. Apparently all of them can't do it, and it takes a name or a personal effect or something relevant to the person being sought. (This must be how they tracked down Dana, Gwyneth, and myself long ago when we made pictures of them. Damn, it makes me want to incinerate my trash and dump the ashes in the river.) Sera looked more and more spooked about interacting with me, especially in a public place, so we parted ways. I was tempted to ask for more awakened rum....
New case today with another missing kid: Flint Madden. His mom (supposedly an irresponsible drunk/drug user) dumped him off on his grandparents (Niles and Grace). Yadda yadda yadda. He'd had a netbook stashed in his room that his grandparents didn't know about, zero security on it, but just one file of note. The text was typical teen angst about how all his friends were angry with him (his grandparents said he had no friends) but it (it?) wasn't his fault, he "couldn't deal with all the weird" and how his grandparents deserved better. Got a picture of him. I've seen this kid before. I know it. But where? When? I tracked the cell number down and it's either off or destroyed. Hasn't been used in forever and a day. So either he doesn't want to be found (most likely) or someone else has kidnapped him and doesn't want the kid--or the kidnapper--to be found. He's probably dead if it's the latter, but maybe his mom swiped him after dumping him? This isn't adding up. Motive is everything and I don't see one here--although Niles and Grace seemed to have an odd vibe about them. Not a guilty vibe, but a.... "fakeness."
Where the hell have I seen that kid before? Damn.
No news yet on Izzy's mother from Mouse and the database searches haven't been fruitful--just stuff from the past so far.
Luck has not been on my side recently. It might be time to grab it by the balls--and twist.
