Infodump

Got back into town and--after having yet another pleasant little barf of McDonald's nuggets, Coke, and black bile (the nuggets did not help cut the taste of the bile as much as I'd hoped)--immediately coordinated to meet up with Val at Harbor Park. I pulled in, scanned the area for trouble (none), and went on in.

Long story made short: the stormcrow spirit I drove Val out to summon earlier, so she could send it looking for a garou? Well, it got captured by an evil, bad-ass spirit that seems tied in with one or more of the garou's Ugly Cousins--who are related to the two who fled from a caern that recently fell to the black spiral dancers. Net result, the shadow bane started harassing Val--crossing over from the spirit world to this world. (I suspected some of the more powerful ones could do this: good to have my suspicions confirmed.) It somehow got past--and broke down--the wards I'd placed on the houseboat to leave a present there for Val to find. Val found it, flipped out (I can't blame her there), rescued LOLcat and stuck him at a vet's place, and then went to Mouse for shelter in the tenement. Mouse turned her out--and that was probably a damn good call on her part, but it didn't sit too well with Val. I think I managed to smooth over the hurt a little. Also, I didn't mention how, since the houseboat was compromised now, how I was already planning on using a ritual involving Matter, Forces, and Entropy to scuttle the ship, claim the insurance money, and look for a new abode. No need to make Val feel bad.

Speaking of feeling bad, the bullet wound that'd grazed my shoulder? Val healed it completely. She said that she was "tapped out" afterwards, and mentioned shoving spiritual energy into a badly mauled spirit. It sounds like they've got limits to the energies they can manipulate/use with their static magic. Good to know. I don't think that applies to shifting, though. Val mentioned sleeping as a bird in a tree that night.

Speaking of magic, Val loaned her sun-generating trinket (fetish is what she calls it) to the garou so they could use it in fighting the bane. In exchange, Kaz loaned Val a lighter that's supposed to help one find their inner calm--and Val loaned that to me for the night because I'd loaned her use of my houseboat. Although she said I could only look at it, not touch. Still, it was fun and educational to look at it. There's a spirit trapped in it. I'd be lying if I said I was uninterested in magically poking at it to see if I could activate it. I bet Kaz wouldn't be too keen on Val having given a prize to a "warper" like me, so I'll make sure she gets it back early in the morning. I'd spend the night playing with it, but I'm beat from current events and that drive up from San Fran.

E-mailed negotiations with Mouse regarding living arrangements. I spent last night in a Motel 6. (It gets expensive living out of a hotel and eating out for almost two weeks.) Mouse offered to put me up at a room in the tenement--either on floor 1-4 or in her room on 5 as she's about to head out. I declined the offer to crash in her room as that.... seems just a little weird. But maybe that was some sort of "claiming" gesture with cultural significance that I'm unaware of? It kind of comes across, in human terms, as if we were sleeping together. Awkward? And does it look more suspicious if I room on a floor other than 5 with the Walkers? Or would living with the Walkers on the 5th floor create situations where I might be more likely to be discovered?

Wow, I am random at the moment. I forgot to mention that the stormcrow spirit Val summoned earlier, which got captured? Val rescued it by seeking out the shadow bane, who turned it over to her in exchange for some information--which she screwed him over on because it'd phrased the exchange poorly. The stormcrow is the one in the park now. Also, apparently Mouse and Kaz worked together to summon a few stormcrow spirits over at the tenement the other night in preparation for the fight that happened last night. It's... all pretty convoluted.
