Carmen might have a new car, Val and I have breakfast conversations, and eyeballing Riley.

Friday night I ran into Carmen and Val in the pool hall. Val'd texted earlier: apparently the two cubs the garou kidnapped earlier (in the Walker's van!) and took out to Edgewood were allowed to roam free. (WTF?) Val'd gotten in touch with Reggie, who'd showed up and beat the crap out of them (was that really necessary?) and took them back to be under supervision. (Doesn't it make better sense to punish the people who allowed them to run free? Guess not.)

Carmen and Val hadn't met before, and I kind of hate introducing kinfolk as such--in the event they simply might prefer to stay anonymous to non-garou--because secrecy is their greatest defense and that can be thrown right out the window with a mere introduction. Instead, I carried on a brief conversation with Val that--to anyone in the know--made it obvious Val was in the know. Carmen then introduced herself with her tribe's name, so she clearly felt comfortable revealing herself as something other than a regular human.

We chatted, largely about not much, and Carmen's looking to buy a cheap, older (classic bordering on antique) car that's reliable for under $4K. Tall order, but I think I found one for her next door in Seattle. Called the owner up, asked some questions, then used the phone line to tap him long distance with Mind to see if he was omitting/hiding things. A couple things, but nothing major and I managed to get him to eventually cough up that there were a few flaws--he's looking into getting them tended to in advance. I'll pass the info on to Carmen and then see about giving her a lift out there to help look the car over and then ensure she gets home okay with it.

Val and I had a nice evening just shooting the shit. We decided to rendezvous at the Rat and Raven the next morning for breakfast. Talked a lot about a variety of topics. Hadn't realized that the skull trophy the Garou have out at Edgewood is from a thing called a "skull pig." Val says there used to be were-boars before the War of Rage. The wereboars, in attempting to help protect and aid the werebears from the garou, made a deal with the Wyrm that was supposed to increase their ability to fight, but it ended up turning them into true monsters instead. It begs the question as to whether or not the skull is a war trophy, a testament to past sins, or both. I also pointed out to Val that she seemed to be attributing everything to spirits, whereas spirits were merely the symptom of the underlying catalyst or cause. I was hoping to prompt her to see that the whole of reality is not dictated by spirit this and spirit that, but rather a symbiotic-like relationship where spirits are an important though mildly subordinate factor. Val's smart: she picked that up pretty quick.

Val also mentioned that Riley had a good head on her (his?) shoulders and had a good grasp on her rage, and that she considered her to be a friend. The few times I've met Riley, she's seemed pretty level-headed and intelligent. I really need to make an effort to get to know her a little better. Val suggested bowling: that'd probably be fun.
