Holed up most of last week in my sanctum, reading Peter's books on magical theory and Forces. (I ought to write a book myself: tips for mages who want to interact peacefully with garou. Rule #1: Don't tell them you're a mage.) Last night, full moon out, I went to my cabin and used my talisman to cross over into the spirit world. Manually gathered firewood, started a fire, and worked on gathering the fire's light into a sphere, where I tried to contain it and build upon it. It took pretty much all night working on it, but I finally made some progress a few hours before dawn. By constantly feeding and feeding more energy into the light-ball, letting it grow brighter and brighter, and then I released it. POP! It briefly illuminated the clearing as if it were high noon on a summer's day, and I got a slightly better understanding of how an energy source can be radiated (albeit with zero control) over an area. Sure, it's basically nothing more than a fancy, 1-second floodlight, but I think that, by examining how I made that work with light over a larger area, I might be able to make it work for other kinds of Forces beyond just light. I think, next time, I'll work with sound. Like light, it radiates beyond my current level of control.
Lots of minor things going on. Riley doesn't know the trick for poking in people's dreams, so I'll probably go mess with Naomi's headspace in the near future. I really don't want to do that as it feels like such an incredible invasion of privacy. Which, speaking of invading privacy, Val forwarded me a video she took of Naomi's phone. Val ran into her, Naomi was tipsy and left go to the bathroom (and left her cell on the table), and Val grabbed it and went through her messages and phone numbers--videoing it and sending the video on to me and Riley. I think Val is potentially on the cusp of making Naomi a problem, even if she hadn't been before. (At least, that's what I'm telling myself before I go and mind-rape Naomi's dreams. Ugh.) Sometimes looking makes things worse than they already are. I wouldn't be surprised if Naomi noticed her phone had been tampered with--or if she'd intentionally left it there to see what Val'd do. That's the sort of thing I'd have done.
