Pressure. Increasing.
Riley walked in on me while I was eyeballing the Walker's ritual room on the fifth floor. I could tell from the resonance that it was some kind of ritual chamber, but I pretended that I thought it was potentially some kind of torture chamber. It's cement and.... sterile. Too sterile for my tastes. I'd have thought Garou would prefer more organic spaces for their ritual magics, but I can see how Glass Walkers might be a generalized exception to that rule, especially for rituals where it'd be important to exclude variables. Riley cleared up my faux-misperception of the room's purpose, and seemed to indicate that the Glass Walkers were not into the whole torture thing like the Shadow Lords. Point for Riley. Point for the Walkers.
I learned that Riley's been in Seattle recently. Hell, she might have been there when I'd been there. Except she is supposed to be locating the hive/caern that the Seattle Black Spiral Dancers have and finding some means to exploit a weakness. She found the entrance--a long sewer tunnel--but that's as far as she went. She's concerned that tunnel might be a death trap. (It is.) And that a group of garou going down it could get chewed up and killed quickly. (They could.) In poking around the area, Riley said she ran into three vampires and /talked/ her way out of fighting them. That's kind of impressive and shows that Riley can work with non-garou without outright trying to kill them. That's another point for her in my books. Anyway, all of this is part of Riley's challenge for rank. She's fostern, so this would make her adren if she succeeds. Fingers crossed for her.
Val buzzed me while I was chatting with Riley. She'd brought LOLcat so I went down to the lobby (with Riley) to let Val in and collect my cat. Departed to put LOLcat up. When I got back, Riley was claiming Val was a genius--and then Val pulled me aside for a sidebar discussion. (Kind of rude leaving Riley hanging like that IMO, but I figured it was important.) Val advised me to mind my manners and make a good impression with Jacinta later, and that because Mouse was backing me, I'd probably be fine. She also suggested bringing Eskimo ice cream (nasty stuff) and speaking Yup'ik like I did before with Ciuraq--and being ready to run like hell. (I think she's forgotten that I likely can't outrun a wolf--much less a flying wolf--on two legs.) She also suggested that it'd be a good idea for me to tell Riley about being a mage, and that she's got only a few people she really trusts to fall back on in the area: me, Brad, Riley. I think she's a bit miffed at me for withholding information from her, too. Like the recent trip to Seattle and then the white-hot fire that made the news right before I got back into town. I told Val I'd take what she said under advisement, but... I don't think that's what she wanted to hear. I think she's a bit miffed at me, and I have to wonder if our friendship is getting a little strained. She said I owe her /two/ fancy dinners instead of one. I'd better start making good on those.
Honestly? It actually might be a good idea to tell Riley. One: Val's already felt her out insofar as her take on mages and she seemed pretty neutral about the whole thing. Two: Riley respects Mouse, so Mouse saying I'm okay should carry a lot of weight. Three: I could help her out on her challenge in an easier, more direct capacity--reducing her chances of getting herself and others killed while aiding in strengthening the Glass Walker tribe as a whole. Four: Riley's often around the Tenement, so it might be a good idea to have her within yelling distances if the shit hits the fan. Like, for example, if I accidentally set the bed on fire in my sleep. Again. Negatives? One: Frenzy upon learning. Two: Relationship dynamics will very likely change. Three: Once the cat is out of the bag, it can't go back in (without more Mind magick than I can currently wield).
I texted Mouse for her opinion, and she seems to think it might be a good idea, but pointed out that it's Riley's moon phase, so potentially not a good time to spring a surprise on her. Good call. I think, honestly, if I do decide to let Riley in, that I should ask Val to reveal the secret. That might help provide an outlet for her, as I know keeping secrets is driving her nuts and causing other hardships.
After sleeping on it, I've decided Jacinta's not out to kill me or anything like that. She'd have otherwise been on the warpath. I probably have Mouse to thank for that as the two of them seem to have a good deal of respect for one another. Mouse likely communicated her respect of me to Jacinta, so.... Transitive property of respect via garou proxies? I'm trying to think of how to play things with Jacinta. Do I do the usual "I'm weak and not very powerful" act which makes me seem like I'm not a threat? Or do I do something impressive. I think Jacinta's a bit of a showoff, judging by how she did that whole" transform into a wolf and then take off flying into the sky" exit the first time I met her. I'm thinking letting her think she has the bigger dick might be the way to go here.
Earlier, Mouse sent me a couple texts explaining that Clarice (Doodle as she calls her) came to her asking about me as dating material, and Mouse told her I wouldn't be interested. Mouse further added that despite the talk some months(!!!) ago that she thought Clarice was flirting with me the other night when we were watching that Star Wars Clone Wars animated movie. Uh. Yikes?
