Puzzle pieces start coming together rapidly.

Dropped by the farmhouse on the way to the sanctum last night, where I'd planned on working a bit more with magnetism. (That plan didn't pan out, though.) Samantha was out in the back yard practicing with the combat knife that "Santa Claws" (me) left her for Christmas. (Samantha knows I was playing Santa Claws because she saw me bringing in the presents and picked the first one of the bunch.) We chatted a bit, me largely being curious as to why a garou might want a knife when they've got claws. Essentially, Samantha thinks knives are good for fighting in a place where a gun might be too loud and/or where shifting might break the Veil. I can see that, sure. But it seems like those might be pretty rare situations. I offered to see about getting her a "drop piece" (an unregistered, throw-into-the-river-once-used pistol), but she declined and said she didn't like guns--and had recently almost been killed by one when she was shot twice. She wanted to work on being stealthier. I advised her to also be proactive in looking for cover in a fight if she wasn't going to use a ranged weapon.

Maddie and Javid then showed up. Maddie mentioned delivering the tablet that Samantha led her to. (I suspect that means Mouse is now in possession of the tablet.) Samantha then mentioned having talked to Jacinta about the incident so as to not have the Warder be in the dark. (So Samantha was the garou who got shot by the ray gun earlier?)

I was hoping to listen in on the conversation a bit more, but then Ex showed up, offered me a pair of brown leather gloves (which were nice, but god damn she creeps me the hell out and it's like she's half a second away from exploding all the damn time) and announced she had passed her Rite of Passage. (Jesus, that is scary that she's now been declared fit for going out and about unsupervised.) That got people discussing other stuff and Ex getting more and more angry. I shut the hell up. Finally I just left because there was too damn much tension in the air--and over nothing! And the moon isn't even half-full yet. Ugh.

Dropped by the tenement on my way to the sanctum, picked up the tablet from Mouse, and gave it a quick once-over to ensure there was no active correspondence magic at work. None that I could detect easily. I took it to my sanctum to do a more detailed analysis and examination. By this morning, I'd assessed that it was another magical focus--not a wonder or a talisman or an artifact. It channels a rudimentary, sensory Prime sensing with a broader-area Correspondence effect to.... Basically? It's a radar for detecting persons, places, and things that possess magical potential energies. It'd detect anything from other mages to shifters to nodes to caerns. I'm not sure of the range, as I suspect that'd depend on a number of factors (including the raw potential the mage using it had). But I'd guess it might have been able to detect strong sources of magic from several miles out. Weaker sources probably within 100 yards or so. My guess is that the guy was out searching for remote places of power and accidentally found two shifters--and death. I'll relay my findings to Mouse later today.
