Meeting Robbie and acting like Prometheus
I ended my meditations Friday evening when Robbie (adren Walker ahroun who used to be over Mouse when they'd packed together in NYC) arrived. We made introductions. He share the bad news out of NYC, where he'd recently fled from and had seen Mouse. He hadn't seen her die, though. But it sounds like the place fell hard and fast. I would not be surprised if Mouse went down with it.
Fuck.
You know, it'd be so damn easy for me to just turn my back and walk away from all this. This isn't my fight. They're losing it. I think the caern is going to fall and the sept will get obliterated.
Except Emma. And the Walkers (well, some of the Walkers anyway). And I guess, to some extent, Silvertip, too. They're going to stand and fight. I know it. Especially Emma. And there's nothing I could say to persuade them otherwise. So I guess I'm going along for this ride, even though I clearly have the option to get out if I just say "I'm out."
And I can't say it. Goddamnit, Nick.
Fuck.
I got Robbie to help me put together a primitive means of transporting fire--smoldering tree moss wrapped in flexible bark (with some very subtle Forces 2 to keep the spark burning at the perfect temperature--keeping the flame from the fire pit alive. Afterwards, Jacinta escorted me back to Edgewood. (I filled her in on my frustrating findings and mentioned I'd need to come back later to see what I could do about defending the caern against the Nephandic presence I'd sensed.)
I went home and transferred the fire from the caern into the fireplace in my cabin. I fed it a bit of quintessence to revive its spiritual resonance. Welcome to my sanctum, essence of Aahn.
Sleep took me the minute I was horizontal. No dreams. Only blackness and void.
