Sunday, July 27--Post-DNA swap meet with Silvertip
Silvertip came over to wheel and deal with what we'll be doing with the items she swiped from DNA's secret lab facility when she and I shut the place down about a month ago. Silvertip wants to give the chemical compounds/drugs she made off with to Quin to see if he can determine what they do, how they're made, and how to defend against them. I agreed that that was acceptable (although I suspect giving them to a warper with some Matter experience would be far more likely to succeed than giving them to Quin, but I didn't want to rock that particular boat). Then Silvertip offered me all the remaining stuff--a high-tech suit and a variety of grenades--after I hinted that I'd probably end up trading everything. She wants, in return, a slice of the items I trade for--books or things she might use. Sounds reasonable to me, and I can surely find something she'd be interested in.
It's unusual dealing with a garou that values knowledge so much. If they wouldn't probably be at each other's throats in under 15 minutes, Silvertip and Slug might make a good team.
I also mentioned that I had a vampire trapped in my cabin, and how it was planning to kill me if I let it go, though possibly not immediately. (I left out how if the vampire left peacefully, it'd almost certainly go back to the Hollower cabal in Portland, warp their minds again, and then turn them on me.) I was hoping Silvertip would demand to kill it. Instead she offered. Which is like me giving permission to kill it. Which feels too close to killing it myself.
Dammit.
Maybe I need to tell someone else.
After Silvertip left, I went back to the cabin, ignored the screaming and descriptions of how she'd kill me once she got out (she was in a real mood tonight) and pleas for blood, and started work on examining the DNA haul via a Time, Mind effect geared towards comprehending the intent of those who made these things. The grenades? Three kinds. Generic fragmentation, generic smoke, and not-so-generic, non-lethal, odorless, invisible stun gas designed to deal a whallop even to a crinos garou. The suit is.... radically complex and highly advanced technology. Once powered up, it allows for a human, via a vast array of small needles that affect adrenaline distribution, to reprioritize their physical capabilities. I could put this thing on and, by sacrificing my physical agility, gain physical strength. The battery pack lasts only 30 minutes though. And I get the impression (via the magical effect/intent I worked) that there is a small chance for cardiac arrest with each use. While it's an interesting toy for someone who gets into fights, it's not exactly something I'd really want to use. I bet Joey (the Akashic in Seattle) or Tyler (the Akashic in San Fran) would be interested in using this suit, whereas Walter (the Virtual Adept in Phoenix) might be interested in studying it and potentially trading it to someone else who might have a use for it. Maybe a Son or Daughter of Ether?
I kept two of the stun-gas grenades. Everything else is going to get traded. For what, I have no idea. Maybe some books or another low-end Talisman.
This vampire's banging on the coffin is terribly distracting. I had to go sleep in the Winnebago.
Mon, July 28--An ice cream social with Esther and Rhys
I brought ice cream bars, sandwiches, popsicles, etc. to the farmhouse and ran into Esther, who I think I haven't seen in over a year now? Last time I ran into her she'd been a cub who was nervous about her Rite of Passage. She's cliath now and seems to have gained some confidence. And she's packed under Uktena with Silvertip. (Maybe some smarts will rub off on the cliath, but probably not much as she seems a little impulsive. Still. She's young. She'll change.) I casually dropped that I'd been up to Rainbow Lake just to see what kind of reaction that my traipsing across Uktena/Wendigo territory might trigger (hurray for the new moon!), and it didn't rile her up at all. We ended up talking about how pretty it was up there. Also, I mentioned that others (never mentioning myself) had been having mysterious writings appear on walls and recently a vision, which I later relayed to her. (She thankfully did not ask who I'd heard the vision details from.) Rhys turned up, they introduced themselves and talked a bit. Rhys said he'd keep an eye out and an ear open for anyone talking about visions or mysterious writings and report them to me, Slug, Emma, and Salem. Then everyone went their own ways as it was getting late.
I ran into Alexis (not literally) as I was driving back towards the road. Backed up so she could get by, and we had a brief chat. Salem cleared her and gave her the anti-scrying necklace I'd made--one for me and one for Alexis--and claimed it was something Mouse had left, needs charging once a month, etc. Pulling it off just like we did earlier with Naomi. So Alexis has some protection from Spirals who might try and track her with Questing Stone or Sense the Prey, and I've got additional protection above and beyond what I have on my cabin. In case the Hollowers figure out that I abducted their vampire friend who mind-controlled them all into becoming her servants and magical hitmen. (What a fucking mess.) She's not settled yet. I recommended Terminus for a job and.... Well, if she's going to stay, we'll get her squared away eventually. I want to pick her brain about particle physics when I get a chance. Maybe after showing her how to use some guns. Probably want to start off with the airsoft versions first.
Mind racing that night. Talk of visions and native american encampments and the large river in the background. I've got an idea for re-dreaming the vision and picking out topographic details, creating a digital representation, and then running Google Map topography searches for near or exact matches. Maybe, with that "Find Me" message, we're supposed to locate where this destroyed village was once located?
