Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, and most of Sunday I spent holed up in the Walkers' tenement building, prepping one of the rooms to serve as a scrying-resistant ritual area where I can (hopefully) work countermagick against the nephandi from the Queen's Tower once he leaves. If he does survive or it is some kind of trap, I hope to be out of there--along with my garou escort (whoever that happens to be at the time)--before any counterstrike arrives.
Monday morning, I had a chat with Karuvar--via Brings-the-Pack--at his place's gardens. He's been out of the loop for a while, so I let him know about the sept's change of leadership, how he might be able to be granted access to the caern, how there are information/social moots on the new moon, and how his assistance and input could be of great value in dealing with the Queen's Tower (which he was aware of but not up to speed with) and the Nothing (which he was not aware of but concerned about). All in all, a good meeting. He never threatened me nor attempted to harm me. We agreed to try meeting up again to see if we could build up a little trust, and I need to give Thane a heads up about maybe having a tiger at the next moot.
Sunday night, still in the tenement, I manifested an illusion of Brings-the-Pack at the halfmoon moot to see what that was about. There was a couple rank challenges: Felix to Winter and Brom to Viv (Bag of Snakes). A strange garou showed up, lingering at the edge of things, and then that led to a chase which I missed much of because I noticed another new garou (Nolan, a Fianna ragabash) was not what he appeared to be and was using an illusion to mask what he really looked like--and a spiral scar. So my attention was largely on Nolan and not the other activities. Scanning turned up no sign of Wyrm-related entropy nor indication of hostile intent via Mind. I reached out to communicate with him telepathically, indicating it was the cougar in the tree speaking to him, letting him know I knew he was using an illusion that I was seeing through, and asking why he was doing it. Basically, from a talk we had later after the moot, it seems like he wanted to start over, not be recognized for who he was, and instead be recognized for who he is. I can respect that, told him as much, and told him so long as he was no threat to the sept or garou, his secret was safe with me.
The situation with the other garou, who turned out to be some kind of mercenary Ronin? They ran her down, brought her back to the moot, yelled at her, and basically said that she'd help the sept or else. This served as a reminder to me to never let Thane know who I am. I suspect, once he has that kind of leverage, he'll use it. The best way to avoid a werewolf's rage is to not present them with an identifiable target.
