Yesterday I was on my way back from running some errands and passed by Harbor Park on the way home. On a whim, I decided to go chuck some rocks into the river and check on the node. Done and done. There was a kid that'd set up a cardboard box and seemed to have attracted a crowd. I noticed the sign on the box that she was reading fortunes. Well, that's a little different--especially in HP--and....

Honestly? The girl looked about as old as I was when I'd first  found my way to Harbor Park, drawn by the node's influence and power, and Peter Kenward found me, told me I was a mage (and not insane). I figured that maybe it was my turn to do the same and that I'd at least check to make sure there wasn't any unusual entropy or time magic in effect.

Anyway, as I got closer, I noticed one of the three  people interacting with kid wore a dog collar. Now normally I'd be inclined to dismiss a tragic, gothic-punk wannabe with a dog collar. But during the day and in Harbor Park? Not so much. I stopped, watched for a bit, and then passively scanned the nearby area for any unusual levels of Prime.

The girl manning the cardboard box tarot table didn't ping. (Ah, well. Maybe she'll be able to have a normal life.) However, the three people standing before the "booth" were all garou. (Holy crapcakes!!!!) I'm not sure if I got noticed moving my hands or not while I scanned, but I threw in a few fidgety hand gestures afterwards to mask things--just in case. Then I headed back to the car and left.

That was scary!

After calming down later that night, I decided I wanted to learn a bit more about communication. I put in an interlibrary loan request at SCCU for three books. One is "Evolution of Communication" by M. Hauser. It's supposed to have a lot of information about the origins of language for humans and animals. I could have bought the book from Amazon, but.... I figure I'll just save the money and not have another book cluttering up the houseboat. Another book was the "Codex Seraphinianus" by Serafini and Calvino. It's basically a text put together to be a hoax. It's full of an undecipherable (made up) language and fantastic images. I'm kind of curious if I might be able to read a hoax text. The third book is "Historia Plantarum" by Theophrastus. It's an ancient text on plant biology--probably the oldest known book--and discusses the "elements" of plants. It's probably a pile of antiquated crap, but it might give me some insight into these berries from those brambles out near WWNP. Plus, Theophrastus is supposedly the "Father of Botany," and my knowledge of "real" biology ended in 10th grade AP biology class.
