I cannot believe I forgot to report that corpse in the alleyway yesterday. The shit that slips your mind sometimes! No harm done, though. The rats hadn't found it yet. (Ahem. Mostly hadn't found it yet.) I called the police, waited with the body until they got there, and endured answering a bunch of questions that I'm much more familiar with giving out. A couple hours later, I was free to go.
I went to the park to recenter myself at the Harbor Park node, and I ran into Emma. She told me Rajani had been by looking for me. Emma gave me a local rag of a newspaper and pointed out where Rajani had left her phone number. You know, her phone number. For the phone she told me earlier she didn't have. And an article circled about three people who died and were tied in to Plasticorp. Apparently she wants me to go see if these people were real or if the names are made up or if they ever existed? Hey, if she can pay the fee, why not?
Things got even more crazy that night. I was meditating at the harbor park node, ran into Mouse again, and asked her if she knew anything about the scrying that was going on with the node. She said she didn't, and didn't see anything, and didn't think it'd be any garou that was behind it. That pretty much confirmed my suspicion that it very likely might be another mage at work--but I've not seen one around and I've been doing surveillance on the place as much as I can for the past 3 months and the tass.... Man, I need that tass. I offered to take out the bugs if Mouse kept watch. She agreed and I went to work.
Okay, I have to admit that the actual countermagicking would have been pretty dull and boring to someone who couldn't see what was going on, so I put on a show for Mouse. Nothing fancy, but it looked like I was doing something awesome. I stuck my hands in the fountain's pool and used some somatic gestures to tear at the scrying points--and I threw in a Matter 2 effect to change the water's colors as my hands and fingers passed through the water. Green for one hand and Orange for the other. All blending together into swirls that combined to make a murky brown. Mouse seemed pretty impressed, but then this guy I'd met a few days ago showed up. Derek Ramsey. Mouse tipped me off that he's garou. The pool? A mess of murky colors that's spreading wider, but easily explainable as being food coloring if need be. Art, right? Then shit got weird.
Mouse asked if I was familiar with the term "kin." I replied I was. She then explained that it's nearly impossible for garou to figure out who is and is not kin, that it often involves losts of ancestry work, and even then a lot of kin can never be confirmed as being kin. She then said for me to "think about it."
Whoa. Just.... whoa.
Derek (Djehuti "Derek" Ramsey) came over and there was all kinds of veiled discussion about family and meeting people and such. I got the suspicious eye, Mouse claimed I was family, veiled discussions resumed, I got asked for contact information, then Mouse got asked if I was part of her family and she shrugged and....
Whoa.
I have very little idea what it is that Mouse and Djehuti discussed as it was just all whoosh whoosh whoosh over my head. Family and real estate and carnage and a car and someone who died and then other people who died and.... Yeesh. I tried to keep my mouth shut as much as possible.
After Djehuti bailed, Mouse and I talked. The plan is that, if she needs to or if someone starts paying too much attention to me, she'll tell them I'm Glass Walker kin. I can do the same and refer them to Mouse. This might help keep me obfuscated from the local Garou's radar because I'm interacting with Mouse and Salem and Val and (to a lesser, more innocuous extent) Emma so much nowadays. And now Djehuti perhaps. Yeah, I have quite the coincidentally werewolf circle of acquaintences. Enough to maybe draw suspicion if anyone pays close attention to who I associate with regularly.
To top the night off, I later used some Prime and Entropy to leave some invisible graffiti on the node. The sigil for the Euthanatos tradition and one word: "mine." If that--and bitch-slapping the scrying points--doesn't make someone think twice about fucking with that node, I don't know what will. There we go. My node unless someone contests it.
