Spent a lot of time in and out of Harbor Park Friday, checking to see if anyone (or anything) had come to check on the scrying bugs that were placed on the node. So far, all quiet on the western front. Had a brief chat with Mouse again, and I learned what the Glass Walker tribe identified themselves with. And what their Ugly Cousins use as a symbol--and that that means bad news, GTFO now, and let the garou know immediately thereafter. I shared with Mouse that I'd left a mark at the node's center that was likely invisible to most garou. However, I remember from loooong ago how Cyllan told me that she was one of the few Garou who could actually sense magic. So I figured I ought to tell Mouse what I'd done--and what it looked like--just in case someone asked. That way she could claim she'd done it.
Ran into Ranjani again late last night. She seems convinced there's something amiss with these Plasticorp deaths. I told her my fee ($400/day, 2 day minimum, plus expenses) thinking that'd shut her down. (I saw her peeking into trash cans! Gross. I suspect she is not the world traveler she claims to be as I doubt she could afford a plane ticket. I cannot believe I fell for some homeless person's lie. But her accent is definitely foreign. Weird.) I figured I'd throw her a bone. I offered to do a rundown on the three people that'd died for her to verify if the tabloid even had any legitimate reporting going on. Turns out these people all existed. Two definitely died (suicides according to the coroner's reports), and one definitely disappeared without a trace. Okay, sure, a little unusual. Common connection? Plasticorp. And then there's Plasticorp's CEO, Patricia Wellsworth, who's running for governor. St. Claire's branch of Plasticorp has about 50 employees. Let's see. The article's writing style is kind of distinct, but it's a collaborative piece. Bunch of authors listed here....
Mother fucker.
H. Crosby.
The woman that was gunned down outside Slaughterhouse Five about a week ago, who I helped to stabilize until the paramedics got there, and who I asked Mouse to go heal earlier because she was at Death's Door and ringing the doorbell repeatedly.
I checked a couple older pieces attributed directly to Crosby. The writing style is all but identical. Crosby's clearly the primary author/investigator/reporter for the front-page story in the issue that disappeared from the racks.
Two Plasticorp employees dead. One missing. And the reporter who pointed this all out, shot and very nearly killed in a drive by shortly after the article came out.
Okay. This /seriously/ smells of a hit. But who? And why?
I checked with the hospital and Crosby's still in the critical care ward--but recovering. Damn. I was hoping she'd be out and mobile so I could "ghost call" her and get her to leave town and hide in fear of her life. Or is this just me being paranoid? Should I even relay this information to Rajani? If she pokes around here, she might get killed.
Dammit. Life is never easy.
