Sometime last night, Karuvar attacked Mouse in Harbor Park's spirit realm--while I was off doing internet searches on Plasticorp instead of keeping tabs on the place. (God damn it!) He snuck up on her, invisible, and had a spirit buddy with him. Mouse ended up knocked out, indicating the tiger wasn't interested in killing her--because he could have very easily. Apparently Mouse came to, gave chase, and the tiger spit fire out of his mouth, twice, at her. Mouse survived despite running through both walls of fire, but was pretty crispy. He got away with the talisman that'd been in the glade/node.
Of course, I didn't know this when I showed up in the morning, took a peek at things in the park, and.... Fuck. Texted Mouse to let her know the talisman was gone and there were scorches in the spirit world nearby. (And then Val.) Mouse filled me in a little bit, and I told her I was parking in the glade and would let her know if anything happened. Nothing did, though. Surprise, surprise. Val texted later on advising me to not get involved.
That evening, Mouse texted, let me know she'd gotten a healer's touch, and was coming out to the park. She filled me in with, well, basically everything in the 1st paragraph above. Val showed up. Turns out that Val is acting as a liaison between the Tiger and the Wolves. (So it's okay to text /me/ to not get involved while you're eyeball deep in it? Of course, she heals fast: I don't.) Wow. They're actually talking about not killing Karuvar after all he did. (I kind of pushed Mouse in this direction, too. I think the garou did, in a way, shaft the cats and steal their doo-dad. And I've got an "outside looking in" perspective on this, too.) Sounds like Karuvar's handlers fed him misinformation, which made things worse. Mouse is still keen on getting the talisman back, despite having told me that it wouldn't work if removed. Now she's claiming it's just "switched off" and they're going after it. (Did I get lied to by Mouse? Or is this desperate hope and/or lack of knowledge about how the talisman works?)
Mouse then asked if Val or I knew anything about making a caern sleep. Val: no. Me: No.... well, probably not. I mentioned how some very powerful mages could actually create glades or caerns and that I didn't know much but would do some digging when I got home. I'd have thought that might have gotten some hint of interest from one or both of them, as there's this rumor that mages only suck nodes dry--not actually create them. Nope. Nothing. Ah, well. I'll hit the sanctum tonight, check my library, and see if I can find anything about putting a node to sleep or otherwise disguising it as being inactive. I'm all but certain that is beyond my capabilities with Prime and/or Spirit, but it's also something I never thought about doing. We'll see.
In chatting, Val mimicked the Tiger's voice, then talked about how she could mimic all kinds of sounds and how she used to use this ability to tease the garou: creating howls of wolves she'd heard on TV and even doing low-flying aircraft impersonations. Neat! (You know, I bet I could pull that off with a little time and some finesse.) Reminded me of how I used to taunt the garou back in my earlier years, too. But I think I'll keep my mouth shut about that rather than share like Val just did. People tend to get a little upset about you having cooked their computers and having "haunted" places.
Then Salem showed up, looking all old and crotchety. Full moon out and he was positively dripping malice. Well, not quite. It reminded me how hot his temper used to be--and still is. He's just gotten it better under control. Let's hope I never do anything to make that control snap or break. Salem and Mouse played catchup regarding current events, Val left. (I think Salem wigged her out. Hell, he made me nervous at one point.) Salem gave me a "welcome to the family" greeting and a "Sure you don't want out now?" question. (In hindsight, it's seems odd that there's no initiation ceremony. But seeing as I got one-on-one time with the tribal elder giving me history/cultural lessons about werewolves... Yeah, that totally counts. There was mention of an Ice King (what's that?) coming back. Then Mouse's pain killers started wearing off (so they regenerate fast but that regeneration does nothing for pain), so Salem escorted her home.
I took a roundabout path that led through a building and had a couple stops to look for anyone tailing me--be they invisible tigers or raven shifters or curious werewolves (oh my)--and went to my sanctum to hit the books. I did manage to find a very brief mention about rendering a node dormant to disguise and protect it, but no details on how to do it. I bet it would be obvious to someone who wasn't as ignorant about Prime as I am.
Bed at a decent hour so I can get up in time to catch the morning shift as they file into Plasticorp for a hard day's work.
