Oct 1st rolled around, and I made a couple trips using the RV to buy some furnishings from Wal-Mart for the cabin. Dorm-style furniture. It's not very classy, but it's functional and cheap and gets the job done. It's nice having elbow room. I think I'm going to keep things on a minimalist level. I also installed a couple motion sensors and webcams. Gives me a better awareness of what's going on outside. Lastly, I took a walking tour of the property and posted "No Trespassing" signs every 100 feet. That should keep out any literate, law-abiding types. If I need to plug someone with rock salt, I won't hesitate so much now.
I decided to drop Blinky (the eyeball plant) off at the Sanctum, shielded by a curtain. Left a note for Charley to take a peek at it. He's probably never seen a thaumavore before. Better to study a harmless and immobile one first rather than a big one that's trying to eat you.
Ran into Mr. Lee the other day in the park. More origami. He's apparently revealed himself to Lefty--possibly others--and is working on a way to help rescue the princess grub from the giant wasp nest in the caern. Apparently he can make shapes using the paper, then transform into those kinds of animals. Wear them as a disguise. I'm not sure exactly how that works or what the limitations are, but... he was flying earlier when Val got into a dogfight with him after the BSD brawl at that motel. He mentioned how the first Foxes were created with no defined mission. They screwed around and were general annoyances initially. And then they decided to get more serious and that their role was to help the other remaining shifters as best they could--including the garou--because the end of the world is coming if they don't.That kind of gave me pause. Am I just screwing around and being a general annoyance because I'm not directly, openly helping? I don't think so, but... Made me think.
Val came back Wednesday morning! I met her in the park, and she seemed well and in one piece. We'll chat and catch up later, because Kitty and Baukhain showed up then. There was some awkwardness as I suddenly realized that I was the person who knew everyone present--and they didn't. Come to think of it, I was introducing the garou to one another at that plant TV show snafu last Saturday. Do I have broader social circles among the garou than many of the garou themselves? Now /that/ is a scary thought. I invited Baukhain and Val to my new digs. Bauk has been dying to find a place she can run about in tiger form. Now she's got one. Just so long as she stays out of the clearing where the cabin's at unless invited in. I'll have her over at some point just so she can see there's nothing of interest within. And I need to meet with Val at some point to catch her up on stuff.
Val texted me tonight that she'd been talking with Thomas again, and that he was saying how I needed to be cautious around the cats because they're nosy, particularly about magic things. I suspect he did get a whiff of something earlier when he used that sensing magic and caught me with my guard down. That or he knows and he's just not broached the subject. He's had ample opportunities to do so in our little sporadic chats, but nothing's come of it. We'll see what the future holds there.
E-mail from Mouse this morning. Cryptic. Basically saying she's sick of dealing with frenzies from Rited garou and that future incidents will be Dealt With. Yeah, I am so glad I work to actively avoid the garou on the full moon. I wonder what all happened at the tenement, though? I'll poke my head in when the moon is skinnier.
