I'm feeling anti-social at the moment, so I've holed myself up in my Sanctum. (Well, I guess I share it with Charley now.) I restrengthened the wardings on Monday. Done. I've got two major projects I want to work on now: a re-reading of the notebook I got from Topsy and enhancing a bulletproof vest.

The notebook was a damn hard read: bad handwriting, dense writing, and disorganized thoughts scattered throughout the document. (The author was in dire need of an editor--or hypertext/multimedia.) I was focused on understanding the text and locating places of power on the earlier reading I did. This time I want to read through it looking to see if there are keys to when the caern should--or should not--be re-awakened. Mixing in a little Mind magic via extended rituals ought to help me tease out deeper meaning and underlying subtexts/links that might not be obvious to someone who can merely read words--whereas I can read the thoughts and intention behind the words. In theory, at least. Still, this probably won't be an easy endeavor.

The other project is kind of an expansion of the ritual I use to help make my silk undershirts more protective--resistant to being penetrated by a weapon. It's largely a Prime effect where the article of clothing is infused with raw quintessence, with an eye towards making it stronger. Of course, I've never actually tested it out to see if it better resists the blade of a knife or a bullet. I've few illusions that it would, actually. But I think it might offer some small benefit. My plan to modify my bulletproof vest (from my days as a cop) is similar to my silk undershirt, but more complicated because I want to bring more spheres to bear on the 'enchantment.' I'll use Matter to transmute the old-school, cheap Kevlar into Zylon, which has 1.6 times Kevlar's tensil strength (but is waaaay more expensive). Then I'll weave in some Spirit protection along with the fibers, which should offer some protection if, for some reason, a spirit decides to attack me. And I'll imbue it with a dash of luck (via Entropy)--which'll probably be expended in one shot, but one shot is better than no shots. And the same with Forces: one opportunity to lessen the impact or blunt the sharpness of an incoming attack of any severity. Lash it all together with Prime and a couple dashes of quintessence so the enchantment will hold together for a few weeks or a month. Hopefully long enough for this trip to Mount Doom with Mouse, Val, and Salem. I'm going to take my time on this one, because getting hurt really sucks.

I'm holding off on using my talisman this month, so no practicing otherwise vulgar magic in the spirit world: I might need the talisman's power later for the Mt. Doom trip. Although... if Charley drops by the Sanctum, I'll be sure to let him take a look at it--just not use it. (Yet.) And he might be interested in the tediousness of what I'll be doing with that vest and the book.
