Last night I gave Naomi a call and we went out to split a pizza. Interesting conversation. We talked sidearms. She clammed up when I mentioned using them against anything other than paper targets, then asked about my PI business. (Right about then, Val sent me a text stating that she had confirmation from someone who was there that Naomi was the shooter.) She ended up asking if we were good (very), what we charged ($400/day, two-day minimum, plus expenses), and if we ever took a case where we found ourselves in over our head. It was almost as if maybe she might be exploring to see if I might lend her a hand in finding future targets for her. She clammed up again, changing the subject to more mundane things. I rolled with the flow and we had somewhat forgettable conversation for the rest of dinner. Decided to spend the night at the Tenement, parking the Porsche a block and a half away after doing some runaround driving to throw any tail and.... I used magic to check for a tracking device planted on the car that might be making transmissions. None. I'm just being cautious: don't care to be the person who gives away the tenement's location to a spec ops operation. :/

This morning, I met up with Val at Denny's to catch up about Naomi. Val's thinking of just putting her cards on the table, but I pointed out that if Val confirms what Naomi might be suspecting already, then Val's exposure exposes everyone she interacts with--a large number of which are not entirely human. I suggested indirectly probing her dreams, show her a crinos in a dream, see how she reacts, etc. Val mentioned that a few garou have the ability to manipulate dreams (didn't know that!), but I suspect I my ability to /control/ a dream and probe thoughts would be more effective. And Val only knows of one garou who actually has that ability, and she's rarely around these days, so.... I'd check with Mouse, but she's swamped. I'll send Riley an e-mail to see if she can do it. If she doesn't know it and Val hasn't found someone yet, I'll do it myself. Need to talk to Riley about getting her studying up for her PI license and proficient in using the digital camera we use for capturing evidence from a distance for some of the PI firm's cases.

Val also mentioned that she found the person who was spray painting umbral maps around town: a mentally handicapped 13 y/o girl who would have turned into a corax later, but someone stole her spirit egg. She just wanders around town, kind of unaware of what she is doing, and goes home to her foster parents. Val thinks they're just in it for the money, so she's thinking about adopting her, and May is helping out with the documents. (So glad I hired her for the PI firm.) This--the foster parents, the damaged kid, the stolen egg, and the mystery behind it--was apparently stressing Val so much she couldn't even eat. That? That's a first. There's a remote possibility a mage might be behind this, but my money would be on BSDs or a malicious spirit. Val's confused as to why the girl's corax guardian didn't scream and summon up a murder of corax to slay the offender. An angle she's probably not considered? Maybe the corax intentionally looked the other way or traded it or.... Many possibilities why no corax said anything.
