Passed Mouse in the hallway earlier. Told her that if she decides to meet with Naomi at some point, I'd be happy to do remote overwatch for her. I figure I can park my car a block or three away from the meet and out of line-of-sight, sit there with my Kindle Fire, and view the meet from afar via Correspondence. Probably a good idea to sweep the rooftops for snipers that might have line-of-sight on the windows and exits. Easy as doing a Correspondence/Life sweep of nearby buildings and any streets that might function as a "sniper alley." I'll bring all three of my tasers. That ought to be ample juice for several non-lethal take-down attempts, should crap hit the fan.
Val invited me over for a movie night. I kind of miss doing those, and with the moon getting fuller, any excuse to get out of the tenement is a good one. I'm pretty much holed up in my room at all times unless I need to leave. Anyway. I got there. We got all settled in. JUST started the movie when Charlene came in. She'd brought the Knife (capital K) with her for Val to look at. It hadn't been cleaned up: dried blood. (Note to self: I don't have any garou blood in the display freezer at my sanctum. Wonder if it's good for anything other than as a ritual link to who it came from? And who the hell in their right mind would volunteer any?)
Val took a look at the knife with a sensing gift, then used her Mindspeak gift to ask me to take a look and share the info with her. I'm not terribly keen on having having someone sharing headspace with me while I work magic--especially a Corax where word of what it's like might get spread around. Plus? I'd already "looked" at the Knife when Charlene pulled it out. It's magic. High levels of Spirit and Life (among other things). Still? Good opportunity to discourage Val from Mindspeaking while I worked in the future without me having to decline constantly. I re-opened my eyes to Spirit and Life spheres--and snuck in some Mind magic to distort and corrupt what Val was seeing. "Distort and Corrupt" might have accidentally turned into psychic trauma.Likely because the Mindspeak gift already linking us together formed a conduit that enhanced the effect of what I was doing and made it too easy to get into her mind. She ended up with serious vertigo. And she had that damn knife in her hand. I was ready to make a grab for it if it looked like she was going to cut herself: thankfully, she had it under control and recovered after a minute or so.
Charlene left, and left the Knife with Val for an indeterminate amount of time. I only half-watched the movie, spending most of my time examining the Knife instead. It's still got energy left in it. I'm estimating there might be as many as two "charges" left in it, but it could be as little as "none"--hard to say without watching it being used once. I could get more information out of it, but it'd take time, focus, and fewer distractions. I get the feeling that no shifter is going to just hand this Knife over to anyone who isn't a shifter.
Charlene said that KL said the man who'd wielded the Knife had been abducting children. If I had to make a guess? Mage of some kind looking to "harvest" a garou -- or whatever else might have human-looking offspring. Cut the child before it changes, steal the wolf (or raven or tiger or whatever), and then... do something with the captured spirit/soul? This sounds like the weapon was made by a Dreamspeaker, Verbena, Progenitor--possibly a Nephandus--but to what ends? And who's to say it doesn't work on warpers? Now there's a scary thought..
The garou could be up against something--or someone--exquisitely dangerous. And likely it's a warper behind things.
