Working to help the garou steal something while I'm stealing from the garou

I was at the Hermitage, looking through the books for anything Mage-related that ought not be in the hands of the Garou, when Slug turned up. We talked a little. He's asked if I could use my contacts in the police to find out more about a desiccated body that turned up recently, and he's asked me to help with bypassing the security protecting a ruby--a piece of a fetish of some kind--in a museum. (I might take Emma there on a working date. Once I get my head screwed back on straight. Killing that vampire.... Ugh. Still dealing with it.) Then he talked about how the Spirals are preparing some big-ass ritual, how he's hoping to find a book on big-ass rituals (and how to screw one up) in the library, and how he bet an Order of Hermes mage could bust up the Spirals' ritual easily. I told him probably about as easily as a sept of garou descending upon the ritual at an inopportune time. He didn't seem to think so. He also mentioned how he was wondering about the limits of that gift he recently learned--the one that lets him turn something that's broken into something that works--temporarily. Like could he buy a rocket launcher from a surplus store, use the gift on it, and shoot a rocket? (Scary thought.) Slug left and I stayed a while longer, sifting through the books, and ultimately spiriting one volume away. Thaaaat didn't need to be in that library. And the other stuff remaining what pretty lightweight/superficial.

A long-overdue chat with Val
Val swung by later that night. Saw the coffin and the Mason jar of vampire ashes on the fireplace mantle. A reminder of sorts. She seemed worried about me, but I think I just need time alone to think. To process. To come to terms. Val alerted me that there's a new Corax in town from the east coast. Mox. Very aggressive and a bit of a bully. She thinks Mox is a Murderer's Daughter, whatever that means. I'd wheeled her wrecked Harley indoors earlier and had spent some time restoring it: a dash of Matter, a dash of Time, and a pinch of Correspondence will buff that right out. Plus, as I wheeled the bike into my new sanctum in the cabin, it's easier to work the magic and I'm shielded from vulgar effects. I get to literally work the back into shape using nothing but magic and my hands. It's therapeutic, I think. She gave me a photocopy of a book on the creation of Wonders and Talismans. Well, shit. I wish she didn't have the original out there, somewhere, but... at least I've got a copy of my own to examine. I gave Val one of the smoke grenades from the DNA raid in return.
I ought to learn more Prime eventually. Or Spirit. Maybe the tome Val loaned me will prove fruitful? I don't know. But in the meantime, I should continue experimenting with Correspondence. Warding, in particular, and when combined with other magics, has a lot of interesting potential I'd like to explore.
The next several days....

I sent Kargamis to talk to Pavel to let him know that I had some items to trade, and then I spent the next several days catching up on work for Terminus and my own PI firm; however, I did squeeze in some scrying on that dessicated corpse Slug mentioned. Guy was in his late 20s, but he'd aged beyond recognition--including his internal organs. He hemmorhaged to death after the assailant hit him square in the chest blow. Severe internal trauma. Like the life was sucked out of him. I couldn't get a fix on the attacker's face. Clouded. Like he could block my sight maybe?
Sun, Aug 3--Playing at being just another kinfolk is tiresome at times

My meditation at the farmhouse's pond was interrupted prematurely by a potpourri of individuals. Silvertip, Thomas, and Val. A number of interesting things were discussed: exploding Spirals following Green Dragon, banes or fomori that hide/move underground. (Something Thomas said he'd take me to later and I could scan the ground below to see if there's signs of them there--or elsewhere on the bawn or under the caern itself.)

About this time Quin turned up and I went mundane with my knowledge--except I pretended I hacked that DNA facility while working with Silvertip, which isn't any secret (and isn't entirely true either, but hey). Krypto turned up, too. And that sucked up Silvertip's time. Eventually we all went our separate ways and called it a night.

Mon, Aug 5

So tell me how you'd go about killing a mage again?

I dropped by Val's place to tell her about the wolf-rat-things, as she'd sent Silvertip and I a message about potentially binding one of those wolf-rat things of "The Nothing." Slug was there and they were already engaged in a discussion. About mages and whether or not the guy that created that desiccated corpse was a mage. Slug seems to think so. Maybe Val, too. Me? No idea. I shared what I knew about the corpse, couching everything I said as if I'd learned it from some contact within the police force. Val was able to mimic the guy's voice, so I suggested maybe Questing Stone or Sense the Prey might work in tracking him. Val seemed to think that would be a long shot, but we've no other leads at all.

After Val left on a patrol, Slug and I just shot the shit for a while. Mostly the conversation ended up being Slug talking about mages, how dangerous they were, and how he'd be super cautious if he ever had to kill one. So I asked him how he'd do it and he had about half a dozen ideas ready to go. Everything from sending someone innocent in to test how they responded to a potential threat and/or mundanes to hiring someone to go after them to getting a SWAT team called in on a bogus threat, to using thermal imaging to shoot the mage through a wall or ceiling or floor when they're not expecting it. All of this proved.... educational. For me. On a number of levels.

Warding. I should definitely work on better wardings, Maybe a Correspondence-Mind effect, juiced with some Prime, to let me know if someone with a hostile intent towards me comes on my property or the umbra nearby? We'll see about that.

God, I could really, really, really use some time as a cougar. But stuff keeps happening.
