Had a nice walk in the woods behind the farmhouse. Good for clearing the mind and centering oneself. Upon exiting the wilderness, I spotted Reed practicing with a polearm, Dakota nearby, and Val turned up. Talk of the rainy weather led to Reed and Dakota wishing for snow instead, which prompted me to ask about protocol for going to or from the caern when there was snow on the ground. Just use the animal paths and don't be obvious. I could use a pine bough to help sweep paths/tracks behind me to help mask my and others passages. Everyone went their own ways (Val vanished into thin air again and Dakota thought she'd just insta-crossed into the umbra, which was not the case, and I pretended to be confused by the whole thing) and then Duke came out. We talked a while about this and that. He's apparently a ragabash and trying to figure out that role. He'll do well at tracking, I suspect. Scouting, probably. Questioning? Maybe? I don't know. It occurred to me, during the discussion, that I could probably train up a cub if the Walkers tossed me one. Obviously, I'd have to teach it the party line and not what I really thought was going on that the garou can't see. But.... to each their means. Duke asked if kin could learn magic tricks (rites and gifts) and I told him no. Kin can interact with garou better than humans can, and thus they can be the garous' eyes, ears, mouths, and hands when it comes to dealing with humanity. Duke's really uncomfortable with the idea of associating with humans in cities. Honestly, he'd likely draw some attention with his peculiar mannerisms. Feral child that just tumbled off the mountain.

On the way home, I watched an older Hummer veer off the road into the woodline and all the passengers bailed and ran for the forest. Reed was walking along the side of the road, so I pulled over, spoke with him about loitering while he checked things out, nearly got rear-ended by Alexis in her Audi, and drove off as I spotted a couple other wolves headed into the woods. I floored it and drove about half a mile down the road before pulling off, firing up some magick, and going into overwatch mode. The five individuals who bailed from the Hummer were definitely Wyrm-tainted. They'd fanned out, running, and set off some fire-related thing that was tracing their paths back to the Hummer. (Oh, hey! Alexis has some magic about her. Gun with some kind of enhanced bullets. Jacket with some enhanced defensive properties, kind of like my silk undershirt. Son of Ether? Daughter of Ether? Didn't have time to look closer.) Clearly a car bomb of some sort. I went to snuff out the fire (easy-peasy with all the rain we've been having and...) got four and missed one. Dammit. Got cocky with how easy that should have been. Hummer blew up. Incendiary-type bomb probably designed to set the forest on fire, but the garou were engaging the baddies by then. I opted to protect their lives instead of worry about the fire. After helping them avoid some nastiness, I noticed two of the remaining baddies running for the deeper bawn, escaping. A little Forces and I made sure they made one hell of a racket in their escape, alerting the garou to the fact that there were two more and where they were headed. Once the garou were back on the hunt, I turned my attention to the attempt at making a forest fire. Dumbasses. Forest is wet from a week of rain and it was still drizzling. Made it easy to just pull in the clouds from nearby and create a brief downpour. Then Val dropped out of the sky in her bird form, bounced off the Suburban's roof and hit the ground. Fire mostly out, nutjobs dead, Val healed up, Reed not in need of an escape vehicle, I headed back to the farm house.

Reed and Alexis turned up. Alexis had the shakes. She hadn't fled the area like I had, and even though she wasn't close to the fighting, she'd been close enough to the car bomb to catch a few minor scratches and scrapes from it. Reed left, and I didn't bother prying at Alexis. It was late and I was too tired to have a discussion. And I certainly wasn't going to have it in the farmhouse. And Alexis didn't look to be in a good state to be having a Talk(tm), either.
