I've been dividing my time between researching Forces magick and mentoring the two Hollow Ones in Portland. This has been surprisingly more taxing than I'd initially thought. On both ends.
Mentoring seems to be going well, other than the fact that there's the whole social aspect of Hollow Ones that I'd forgotten about. The nihilism and indifferent attitude can be vexing, to say the least. But it's superficial. Underneath, Briar and Shade are both interested in learning more about magick. Curiously, I've even had one member of the Portland chantry--a Verbena--extend an olive branch of sorts. We had lunch together twice. I think she's working up to asking me about learning a sphere--likely Forces, Mind, or Correspondence I'd wager. Could just be that the chantry is using her to keep tabs on me. Maybe all of the above.
Forces-wise, I've been experimenting largely with the language of flames and heat, transmuting those energies into physical, kinetic energies and vice versa. You wouldn't think it, but when a breeze rocks the trees back and forth, that's ample enough kinetic energy to refocus and start a fire. And a campfire, in return, yields enough heat that can be stored and then converted into kinetic energy to throw or shatter a boulder. I feel like I've dabbled overly long with fire and kinetics, though. I think I'd like to work with cold while the moon is fuller--even though cold is essentially just fire's energies in reverse and I've been using the fire in the cabin's fireplace to air condition the place over the past month.
Had a brief visit with Val the other day. She shared a recording she'd made of Slug talking via cell phone to the mystery mage(?) associated with the black ooze. I think I'll be processing that recording for a while. According to Val, a Walker Galliard who outranks Mouse and who is from a sept called Diamondback helped in a raid up in Salt Lake City, Utah, repelling some Spirals who'd taken over a earlier. Glad it wasn't ooze-Spirals, which was what I'd expected to hear. In other news, Val thinks Slug might be considering challenging again, but that he might go elsewhere to do it. Too bad Riley isn't around. She'd be good for that.
