Too damn cold to do parkour in the park. At least, that's my assumption as cold weather doesn't seem to bother me all that much nowadays. Emma showed up and said it was freezing, so... We hopped on my bike and went to the indoor gun range instead. (I need to buy a second helmet.) I'm seriously eyeballing a Walther PPQ .40 as a heavier, not-as-concealable alternative to my KAHR .40 subcompact that I like to keep concealed on me. The Kahr is just so palmable and easy to overlook, but it only has 5 shots and not much accuracy at anything beyond 15 yards. I like the Walther PPQ as a backup because it has the same bullet caliber and punch, but better range and holds 10 rounds. And there are some situations you get into where you are willing to have a gun that's not as easily concealed, but brings more to the party.

Interesting little thing happened at the gun range. Mouse showed up. She and Emma were.... posturing? Emma took a sort of protective posture (protecting me from Mouse?) Words were exchanged, Mouse said she needed to talk with me ASAP, and Mouse left with someone else (no idea who) who'd also just walked in the door. Ooookay. After I finished with Emma's lesson (she's taken a shine to a Sig Sauer .40, but I suspect she could handle a .45 once she's gotten more comfortable with handguns), we split up and I went out looking for Mouse.

Mouse (and several other garou) had recently run afoul of a dragon in a pocket dimension. (How cool is that?) They'd killed it, as it was corrupted somehow, but there seemed to be some kind of Wyld backlash that'd messed with Mouse's brain--altering her senses and mental pathways--which was apparently calling her mental stability into question: not a good place to be in in Garou society, apparently. We went back to my houseboat and I did a ritual to examine her, then look at the differences between her brain now and about a month ago before the incident. There was no way I could pull off an effect like what'd been done to Mouse. (A Master of Life or Mind could, but that's waaaay beyond my capabilities.) But the effect seemed to be degrading, so Mouse would likely recover in a month or two. However, that didn't look like it'd be ideal for her. As it's easier to destroy than create, I offered to countermagick the effect to hasten about its unweaving. Mouse agreed and... long story short, I did a pretty decent job! (I threw my back into that one because I did want to impress her. Glad it seemed to have worked--and I didn't accidentally lobotomize her.) Probably reduced the effects and duration well over 50%. Mouse seemed thrilled and offered, in the future if she ever gets the ability, to take a trip into the spirit world. I might take her up on that--provided it's a safe place to do so. (I need to put together an agenda for what to do if I ever have that opportunity.) She also told me that there's a spirit that could wipe out half of Washington State lying under a mountain in Spokane, and to tell any mages that went poking around to leave it confined rather than mess with it. Honestly? Best way to not have anyone mess with it is to not tell anyone it exists.

Looks like Val's recent Plasticorp break-in made the paper--and Dan Perry knows what she is. Left her a voice mail as a head's up.
