A lull in my case load, and spotting a flyer for a missing person while I was out getting groceries, prompted me to cold-call the number on the missing person flyer. Sounded like a kid on the other end, looking for his mom, but it didn't smell of shenanigans. We met for pizza later that night. Kid's name is Izzy. Mom is a travel writer and often on the road for long periods of time. The last postcard he got from her was back in October. Her dad? T-boned by a truck. Izzy's all alone, maybe 12-14 years old, living out of a youth hostel, and in an unfamiliar city. I'm taking this on as a "pay after she's found" case--but I didn't have a lot of faith that she'd be found alive after that long of an absence and no obvious signs of discontent.

Sera, who'd showed up as Izzy and I were sitting down, thought otherwise though. (This was after she temporarily borrowed a compass that'd belong to Izzy's mom, popped outside for about ten minutes, then returned the compass. Personal effect. Sera slid me a map that had writing and an arrow on it. Apparently Izzy's mom is still alive, but Sera could only determine a direction--not a distance.) After the meet, and sliding Izzy some cash and the rest of the pizza, I headed out and e-mailed Mouse to see if she or one of her underlings could assist in finding the kid's mom. Mouse asked if there was anything she could do for me the other day after I helped get her brain functioning better again after the spirit mucked with it: this is it.

I wonder if the garou used the same kind of magic that Sera used to track Dana, Gwyneth, and me down ages ago after we made pictures of them killing people in the park? None of us knew how to create wards back then. I wonder.... Would a ward prevent the garou's magic from working? I need to figure out more about how the garou's trick works so I can better counter it. Or replicate it. How handy would that be for a PI?

Val called this morning. She's okay. Sounds better, too. She's currently out of town, but passed off the info packages to the garou. She turned the hitman's email address over to the fire-breathing tiger to deal with. I don't envy that guy.
