Thomas returned my call yesterday afternoon. We went to meet at the houseboat and I sold it to him for $14,500--the discount "family deal." I did have one other offer for a little bit more, but I'd rather help out family. Of a sort. I dunno. I figure Thomas was either born as kin to the Uktena and the later figured out, oh, werefox/Kitsune; or he figured out he was Kitsune and then the Uktena quietly let him in. Possibly on the sly. Like Mouse and Salem kind of slid me quietly in through the back door. Shhh. Anyway, he paid in cash, so I had a backpack filled with bills. Nervous much? Yup. Thomas didn't even mention that Dirk Fang guy dropping out of a dimensional rift in the park earlier--or maybe having detected the magic on and about me. He might be playing it cool or he might not have noticed or he might have assumed it was the fountain/glyph behind me.
Val popped up as the deal was going down, but that didn't interfere with business. It did prompt me to not linger around chatting with Mr. Lee, though. I said my goodbyes and headed off with Val following. We met a few blocks away and she explained she'd been injured in a public brawl between two guys fighting over a girl who seemed to have initially instigated the fight over her. (Seriously? People still do this outside of junior high and high school?) She's not healed herself because of how that'd look suspicious to the public. Good point. Val said she didn't know the names or who the guys were, so.... I need to watch myself. I was half tempted to go fuck with those two for having hurt Val. Revenge.... is not very becoming, Nick.
A few days earlier, Val had showed me a silver knife that'd been taken from the evil spirit that'd been working with the BSDs. I eyeballed it in hopes that it'd come from the spirit world instead of this one, but it was "native." This got me to wondering, and I finally asked Val if she might bring me over a rock or something unimportant and non-living, non-sentient from the spirit world to study. She considered it briefly, then consented. I just need a place where I can examine something like that, as I'd feel uncomfortable taking something Val brought me to my Sanctum, taking something that unusual for a kinfolk to have into my room at the tenement (where I'd poke and prod at it with magic), and I no longer have a private residence like the houseboat to handle things like this. I need to go pull the trigger on an RV. The sooner the better.
