I dropped by Edgewood just after midnight to drop off a bag of candy and a stack of comic books. Kitty was there. We had a good talk. Someone told her about "the others" that are out there, and she seemed pretty open to judging people on their individual merits. I mentioned to her the concept of present bias, where the garou and their fixation on the apocalypse mirrors humanity's ongoing belief that the world has been ending since, like, almost forever, and that this or the next 1-2 generations will be the last. We talked packs and obeying elders. I made sure to tell her about how the Wendigo cub died by not following orders, because she seemed--from earlier when we were dealing with that venus flytrap and the television van--to be shooting a lot from the hip and ranging far from the group. I hope she gets into a pack and learns to stick close. Otherwise, I suspect she might find herself badly wounded or dead due to her youthful vigor and headstrongness. I like her. She's nice. Considerate. And at least tries to think for herself. If she gets a better handle on her anger, I've got high hopes for her. Although I can already tell that she's going to grow up to be a busybody.

Friday afternoon I swung by the park to do a little parkour. Thomas showed up, alerted me that "Feathers" (Val) was back in town, and mentioned that I probably already knew that (as we tend to hang out together). I told him I'd been watching her place and tending to her new Harley while she was away. I learned that the Uktena and Wendigo have "turf" near a lake and a herd of wood buffalo, and that "urrah" (city-dwelling tribes) are not allowed. And yet the Walkers are gracious enough to allow the Uktena and Wendigo in the tenement and even offer shelter if need be. I think the rural, more traditional garou must--in general--just be inflexible assholes. I prodded a little bit, and he did seem willing to do a display of his paper-based magic at some point--but in a more discreet location than a public park. Might take him up on that as I am curious as to how it works--and if it only works for him or if it works for others.

Friday evening I drove the van over to the tenement and ended up spending the night. I ran into Carmen downstairs. And a Gnawer ragabash named Slug who has scars on his face. I recognized him as the guy outside of Slaughterhouse Five during that drive-by shooting about a year ago. I mentioned the vampire in town (or that was in town), and then Carmen asked if anyone'd ever met a mage. (Yeah, my heart stopped for hald a second.) We all said no, and I made sure to call mages "warpers"--which I think is a quasi-derogatory term the garou use for mages. (But, seriously, it sounds more kick-ass than "mage.") Carmen then went on to divulge she had a childhood friend down in Los Angeles who turned out to be a mage. Also, he'd been sporadically helping out the local Walkers there. Computer and security help. She introduced him to the Walkers and things seemed to work out between them. (Sounds like she knows a Virtual Adept or maybe an Orphan with some skills in Correspondence and/or Forces.) Then she mentioned how she wouldn't introduce her friend to the Walkers here because they're so erratic and undisciplined--and pointed out the frenzy that happened in the breakroom recently. (Good observation. I was half-tempted to start thinking about maybe coming out of the closet up until then, then quickly reconsidered.) And that's why she hangs out with the more civil, business-minded Glass Walkers who hang around Terminus.

After Carmen left (I'll have to ask about her mage friend at some point), I headed upstairs to see if Mouse could clarify what happened with the frenzy earlier and to see if I could get permission to try and demagick Devon, who is apparently still blue and covered in scales. Mouse, unfortunately, was badly injured and being tended to by Lefty. (So they do let certain other garou up on the 5th floor.) Kavi turned up, and we got to tending to her. Long story made short, Flint apparently decided to challenge Salem's authority during a full moon. Flint ended up frenzying, Salem frenzied back, Mouse and Kavi intervened, and everyone got hurt--but Mouse and Flint got the worst of it. Mouse healed Flint, who was bad off apparently. Salem was able to walk away. Kavi, too. And Kavi had healed up. Mouse, however, wasn't healing properly and couldn't use that healing gift on herself. (How backwards is that? You'd think it'd be easier to heal yourself than others. At least, it is for mages.) Lefty went looking for a healer and I stayed the night so she wouldn't need to get up for anything. I scanned her and she's got a badly injured spine--which isn't exactly in great shape to begin with. I camped out on the breakroom couch so I could bring her whatever she wanted and had no need to get up. Might as well. Saturday, I'll work on putting the rubberized paint lining on the van's interior.
