Spent the first half of the day doing some reading. Popped over to Edgewood in the evening and heard some thumping out in the garage. Turns out it was Kitty practicing something-or-other. And Riley was there taking a nap--or having recently taken one. Then I met a new person--Dagny, a Get Adren Galliard--who was bloodied from hauling in a deer she'd killed. Then Dagny took Kitty out to hunt. Sue showed up. Talk of some kind of ritual for Sue, it sounded like. I saw Riley shift to crinos, haul the deer over to a freezer with zero effort practically, then shift back. I asked how she made her clothes appear and disappear when she shifted, and she said she couldn't explain how the ritual worked--and for me to just think of it as magic. (Ha!) You know, I could probably work a bit of magic onto an item, have one of them do a ritual to bind it to themselves like they do, shift, and--while watching with Correspondence and Spirit and Life--probably tell them what happens to their stuff: if it binds to them, if it goes to a pocket dimension, or if it turns to spirit. A future research project, for a rainy day, perhaps.
The group disbanded and I ran into Val. Told her about Lefty not being too hot to trot with letting Val in on the scouting mission. She grumped a bit and said Jacinta (who is apparently the Warder) didn't want her around anyway because she'd pulled some stunt when she was young and stupid. I suggested to her that she go visit Jacinta, tell her that she did something young and stupid long ago, she wishes she hadn't done it, and that she's matured enough now to apologize for it. Additionally, I advised her to mention how Val'd been instrumental in cubnapping the two twins currently under Jacinta's care, and how aiding the Wendigo in the recovery of those cubs pretty much cost her her job at the SCPD. And, hey, if Jacinta says no, then Val can just shut the door permanently there and have closure.
Personally, I'm kind of excited about Val coming to work for my PI firm instead. Better hours/flexibility. And I revived the profit sharing model I'd used when I owned Boutique Gothique. Val works as much as she wants. Once the overhead for the business is covered, she earns 85% of everything she brings in. If she takes a vacation, then I float the shop on that 15% or start taking on cases myself. Could probably bring in a garou or two later, providing some level-headed ones can be located who have that find-a-person trick and aren't all trigger happy rarr rarr rarr. That one garou, Bernie, would have been good for this. She's probably long-dead by now, though.
Val suggested heading out to hit up a goth club, but I guess I've gotten over that whole scene. And I just wasn't feeling it. I went back to the cabin to just read and call it a night, but then thought to text Mouse to see if we were heading out for Mt. Saint Helens anytime in the next week. She said no, so I popped outside, scanned the astral plane, and crossed over. The spirit world around my new house is roughly similar to the Walkers' wooded territory. Bucolic. I tried using Forces and Spirit to send a text to Mouse: it went through and she responded. Texts from the spirit world!
I spotted a squirrel spirit mucking about near some pine trees and decided to touche its mind like I'd done with LOLcat the other day. I was able to mentally communicate with it, but it was pretty much only interested in the location of nuts--and that I wasn't after it or its nuts. Good to know I can pull that trick off (at least with minor, simple spirits): particularly since I learned today that with the garou it's generally only the theurges who can communicate with spirits. Crossed back over and camped out on the futon downstairs with a blanket, a copy of The Matrix II on the tube, and LOLcat curled up on my chest. He likes sleeping with me when it gets colder outside. And I've kind of missed having company in bed--even if it's just my cat.
