Yesterday I printed out all the documents I'd been working of for Charlene. She'd asked me about 3-4 months ago if I could come up with a means for her to buy a house without it being in her name--kind of like what I'd done for the Glass Walkers with their cargo van. I'd pressed her for what all the secrecy was about, and she said she wanted to set up a refuge house for kinfolk who'd been abused by a garou. (God, that's a scary thought. Domestic violence combined with a werewolf? Shit.) She doesn't want any garou to know about it. (Understandable.) So I've spent a lot of time gaming the system, finding the weak points. (A little Dream and Entropy never hurts to lubricate the wheels of progress and obfuscate who the hell did it.) Set her up a non-profit charity with a vaporware board of directors and a checking account for accepting anonymous donations and dispersing funds. Found a trio of potential houses in the Kent Crossing area that seemed to fit her requirements. Located her an easily intimidated disbarred lawyer who'll handle the closing under the table. Boom. Done. Called her up, met at Medina Coffees, walked her through what all the documents were and what she needed to do to finalize acquiring a house.

She offered to do me a huge favor--unspecified--in thanks. I fed her a line about how, as kin, all the stuff the garou do and fight for is often very intangible and that it'd be nice if I had a little something physical so that I felt more connected to the whole War thing. I suggested she bring me a small stone back from the caern once it'd been reawakened. (Seriously. I am kicking myself for not getting one when I was in the caern/wasp-nest late last year, but it's kind of hard to pick up a rock when you're getting a piggy back ride on a garou in war form. Just saying. But a piece of the caern when it'd been re-awakened? That'd be nice to have and a nice addition to the Display Case of Wonders.) Charlene seems amenable, but she's afraid taking a small stone from the caern might potentially disturb the spiritual balance, so she's going to discreetly make inquiries. I told her if it was any trouble, to not bother. Lord knows I don't want to damage the caern. I just want to get a feel for what it's like--and its power--through the resonance of the stone.

Plus, in an emergency situation, I might be able to use the stone as a focus for siphoning off some free tass via Correspondence and Prime magic. A caern is nothing but a massively powerful node with a Spirit-based affinity. I'm almost 100% positive I could skim energy off of one without damaging it--just like any other node. Whether or not someone would notice, though? That... I can't be too sure of. No one seems to have noticed my activities over the past 16 years with the two nodes in town--including the glade in Harbor Park.

Charlene even drew me a map on a napkin of roughly where the caern was located. It wasn't to scale or anything and would have been useless for anything beyond "it's somewhere in this hundred square miles of wilderness." She probably doesn't realize that I already know precisely where the caern is--and she didn't seem to know I'd already been there once before. Ah, the joys of the garou's oral traditions.
