Thursday: Val texted from Seattle to let me know that the Honda Prelude I'd bought as a company vehicle (but largely as a vehicle for Riley) was blown up. Everyone (Val, Riley, and Claire) was okay, though. She said she'd swapped out the plates and put a piece of paper over the VIN in the dashboard, helping to make it difficult for anyone to have tracked the car back to my business. Yay, Val! Using her head for more than just a hatrack! Still? I've no idea if the tricks Riley knows for tracking someone down are accessible to the BSDs (though I suspect they are), and I've no idea if bits of a blown up car can be used as a ritual component to track down the owner. I spent the night putting up an ant-scrying ward in my apartment. Hopefully that'll make me drop off the map--so to speak--and let me know if anyone attempts to track me via magical means.
Friday: "Everyone ok" apparently did not cover Clarice's ears. They'd been blown out by the explosion as she'd been standing near the car went it went boom and she'd been using some kind of gift that let her hear better. Blood in her ears and she almost couldn't hear at all. The day before, she couldn't hear at all. Testimony to the garou's miraculous healing abilities.
Val and Riley showed up after a bit. Val attempted to heal Clarice and it didn't work. It's nice to actually witness a gift failing, though it's not-so-reassuring that the garou can't always heal things up with their gifts: That's been my Get-Out-Of-The-Hospital-Free pass twice in the past and--knock on wood--I won't need it in the future. Something tells me, at some point, I will need it. Val shared some information. The BSD's leader was called "Renegade" and the Buzzard (fallen corax) leader was "Nightmare." Val said that both ought to be treated as if they were adren-athro ranked. That all translates to pretty much the same thing for me: Don't get close to them. Riley apologized for getting the car blown up and offered to have it taken out of her pay. I'd rather lose the $4K than lose Riley. Or Clarice. Or Val. I figure they're worth at least $5K each, right? :) Still, it was nice that Riley apologized. From past dealings with other garou, they don't seem too concerned about non-garou's feelings. Not unless they're fucking them, at least.
Also? It seemed like Riley and Clarice were communicating silently with one another. I'm tempted, if I see them doing that again and no one is paying me any attention, to examine what's up there--and if I can tap into and communicate over "the line."
The next morning I got a call from Sgt. Drew Wilson from SCPD's motor vehicles' dept. Seattle PD had scraped the remains of the Honda off the pavement, impounded it, and found a VIN on it that'd survived the fire, and traced it back to my company. They'd called the SCPD to see if it'd been reported stolen or if it was still registered to me. I told Wilson that it was a company car and I'd have to look to see who'd checked it out and get back with him. I promptly put together a backstory/excuse for Riley and instructed her to contact Wilson at the SCPD to report the car stolen: lost in the process of an investigation where it had to be abandoned for a few days in a "hot" crime area in SW St. Clair. Damn good think I had a contact at the SCPD and damn good thing I know how to work the system. Still? Here's hoping that the BSDs don't have any police contacts in Seattle's PD. If so, they've got a trail that leads to my business now. And that business ties in to me, Riley, Val, and May.
I think I might do a foretelling of my own to get a feel for if the BSDs or Buzzards will be attacking me, Riley, Val, and/or may via my business. I'd ask Ila, but I'd rather her focus on the upcoming meeting with Jacinta. Speaking of....
Saturday night I meet up with Ila to show her my sanctum and library. I told her I'd been made by one of the highest members of the sept, that I had an upcoming meeting with her, and that I might not live through it. I wanted her and Charley to have access to the last remnants of Nightfall Chantry, and I didn't want it falling into garou hands. Also? If I don't come back, they'll know that the leadership of the sept will likely kill them if they're discovered--and they'll be more prepared to react and defend themselves if need be. Ila offered to do some foretelling with Time magick in an attempt to give me some tips/advice for the meeting. I'd been planning on doing it myself via my Magic 8-Ball, but earlier to the meeting date so the results would be clearer and more concrete. Still, Ila offered to help and I do appreciate that. I let her do a tarot reading. The results were convoluted, so she's taking some time to better interpret them. First question was "Is Jacinta planning to kill me." If she is, I'll have to decide whether to beat feet or go to the meeting loaded forbear werewolf.
Val sent me an encrypted e-mail letting me know that she'd finally spilled the beans to Riley, and Riley didn't seem outraged or rarr rarr rarr foamy at the mouth. More curious as to why I'd ragged her for blowing up the car, why I hadn't just made money out of thin air, and Val thinks she wants to play with my lightsaber. (Now there's a euphemism if I've ever heard one.) We'll see how that all translates when Riley and I meet in person next. Other things Val mentioned? Apparently she's figured out what Naomi is, though Val got kind of rambling and I'm not sure what she was saying. Also, Val wants me to look at a Knife (capital "K") to see what I think: Val or Mouse will have it. Sounds like it might be magical. Surely it's not a fetish? Why would they ask me about that? Perhaps it's a talisman? Iiiiiinteresting.
All this laying low has really helped me to get a lot done with Mouse's inversion table and with the stock portfolios I manage for Terminus. Almost done with both!
