Saturday I walked into the 5th floor break room to find a wolf on the couch watching Sons of Anarchy on the television. That made me pause for a second because, frankly, the Glass Walkers pretty much parade around in homid almost all the time. (I suppose it gets boring being in lupus after a while?) But, yes, wolf on the couch and I didn't recognize it. I found my pair, then casually strolled over and sat on the opposite side of the couch as if, hey, no big deal. The wolf shifted. Claire. And she seemed in a good mood and the moon phase was pretty slim. We chatted a while. First about her grasp of English. She thinks she's doing a great job, but.... And she said she thinks that speaking good English help her go unnoticed by vampires, Spirals, and mages. (COUGH!) She said if anyone asked about her speech, she could pass herself off as being Asian or an Eskimo. I recommended Eskimo lest she claim Asian and then someone busted out the Chinese or Japanese on her--which is way more likely than "Eskimo." I then told her that a lot of people will not just openly criticize someone's English because it's considered rude--especially if they have a speech impediment or medical problem. I suggested that maybe Claire could claim she had a speech impediment if someone asked her about her language skill. (I don't think she took that all that well.) Then I asked if she'd had any bad experiences communicating with a vampire, Spiral, or mage before. (Because, really, what prompted that earlier comment from her?) She claimed up and changed the subject, so I rode along. I don't think she'd have spent long willingly and knowingly talking to a Spiral, but I do know that the Glass Walkers in other large cities often have dealings with them--and Claire is most recently from Vancouver. Interesting.
Claire started talking about the robo-roach e-mail I sent a few weeks ago. She and Riley were planning to tackle that by burning the shop down (via an electrical fire) and killing the owners and taking out what they suspect might be a Weaver spirit in the nearby umbra that's attempting to one-up Roach--or maybe ensnare one or more roach spirits. I argued with her that it'd be immoral to just kill people outright like that, particularly if the spirit had influenced them or forced them to do things against their will. I /think/ she's now considering that, hey, maybe we shouldn't just kill the humans outright like we'd originally planned. (I wonder if the lupus mentality results in them seeing humans as being just another animal--and how that extends to kin. Scary thought.) The language barrier between us is painful. There are times I wish I could just use some Mind magick and cut through all those barriers, but that would have a high probability of tipping my hand--especially if it were overt. I bet Claire has some interesting thought processes that would be interesting to study in more detail--and compare with homid garou and humans on the street. Hey, you know what? I saw a card game called "Would you rather?" where a person is given a scenario where they're ask if they would rather do (or have done to them) Thing A or Thing B. I bet I could get some insight into thought processes by getting someone to play that game while using some coincidental Mind magick.
I took the initiative and finally got up the nerve to tell her that Riley'd told me that Claire might be interested in me, but that I'm seeing someone else. (It's so 7th grade it hurts.) Claire took it pretty well. She said I'd been gone for so long recently that she was no longer interested. Yay! So we're still friends and that's finally behind us both. She left shortly after rather than finish watching Sons of Anarchy, which kind of sucks. I was hoping she'd turn back into a couch-wolf so I could pet her. I know, right? /Crazy/ impulse.
