Mon, May 26--The garou plan a war-scouting mission, a trip to the Uktena/Wendigo lands to meet with Silvertip, and a rendezvous with Emma.

Monday morning I swung by the farmhouse where Riley, Alicia and a few others were discussing their upcoming scouting trip. At the time, I attempted to be helpful and provide a little input, which annoyed Riley because she'd already done a ton of legwork--that I hadn't been aware of--and I'd done none. I should probably just butt out of that entire thing, honestly. It's just that I don't want to see anyone get hurt. Or captured. Or dead. Rhys swung by and we ended up going out to shoot my pistol for a bit.

The other night I'd sent Kargamis, my chimera spirit familiar, off to see if Little Silvertip would be interested in me paying a visit out to her neck of the woods. The response was yes. So after I'd run out of bullets with Rhys--which didn't take long as I'd only had 15 on me and in the gun--I packed up and headed out. Loooooooong hike up the mountain. Took me about 3 hours to get there, but the view? Absolutely stunning and pristine. Remote. Too bad the Wendigo and Uktena tribes claimed that spot already. It'd be a nice spot to drop a small cabin for when I wanted privacy from the world.

I met up with Silvertip--no others were about (thankfully)--and we got to talking. She showed me a partially below ground structure they had for shelter. It looks kind of like a Hobbit house, but bigger and not as green and fantasy-ish. The stonework foundation was of Incan construction. The stuff that puzzles archaeologists and engineers even today how they got the stones to fit so well together. Silvertip said someone named Fernando had helped to build it. Recently. I asked if I could examine it, got permission, and looked at the wall with a Time, Mind, and Correspondence effect to get a feel for how in the world Fernando had constructed it. The solution, it turns out, was pretty easy. I told Silvertip I might use that building technique when/if I decided to build a stone tower. She seemed puzzled at that and thought that I might want to live in a swamp-construction like Yoda had. That was kind of funny.

I restored the damaged book that Silvertip was interested in. A simple task with Time and Matter and Mind to transform powdered ash into an adhesive-like ink on the pages where coffee had damaged the pages enough to make them illegible. She'd brought up Karuvar during our discussion of book. One thing led to another and I asked for her advice about whether or not I should accept Karuvar's invitation to his place. She said not to do it (which, honestly, is probably the safest course of action considering the circumstances by which we met). She asked why Karuvar invited me to his place without knowing what I was, I mentioned that I thought he might have initially thought I was a Pumonca. She asked how that could be, and I decided I trusted her enough to tell her about the talisman I acquired. For a moment, I thought she was going to try and take it from me--she thought it was a fetish. I informed her that if it was, I wouldn't be able to use it--and that I knew the mage who'd made it. And a few more reassurances that if I found a fetish, I'd turn it over to the garou. (Probably Mouse unless it was /obvious/ it belonged to another tribe. And even then? Mouse. So she (and the tribe by proxy) could return it and get credit for it. Also of note? Silvertip thinks tigers are more interesting than cougars. Frankly, I do, too. But I think if I had my choice, I'd go with cougar. Spotting a cougar in Washington State? No big deal. Spotting a tiger? BIG DEAL. See also "The Importance of Not Being Seen."

Silvertip gave me a tour of the lands and we talked about going further up the mountains to see more of Fernando's Incan construction work, which he was able to accomplish because he had a link to some ancestral past life. (It's like Dreaming for Mages, but substantially more limited in scope and with more specialized, and sometimes supernatural, information.) She also offered to summon a cougar spirit for me in the future so that I could learn better how to be a cougar. (Something tells me that being a vegetarian is not going to be seen as a good thing by a cougar spirit.) We said our farewells and then I left for home. I wish I'd had more time to stay. I'd have liked to have gone over to pet the bison. And I found myself regretting that I can't just turn into a cougar off and on with ease, like the garou do when they change shape between human and wolf. It would have made the hike so much faster and more enjoyable.

I got home and Emma and I spent some quality time together. A LOT of quality time together.

Tuesday, May 27--Zonked.
I spent the entire day in bed, exhausted from yesterday's 6-mile hike. And Emma.

I need to buy a case of Gatorade.
