Slug had texted me while I was out of town, after the DNA raid and rescue op, to say it went well and that he had news for me. I prooobably knew more about what happened than he did (as I'd orchestrated most of it and effectively pointed the garou off to handle the rescuing part of the situation). So when I got back to Saint Claire, I made a point of dropping by to talk to him--culturing a relationship, I guess. Plus he's in Emma and Salem's pack. Problem: full moon. I arranged a meet out by the pond near the trees at the back of the meadow behind the farmhouse. I did a Time effect to get a feel for whether it'd be safe or not: AS I SEE IT, YES. So a liiittle doubt there. I went early and climbed a tree out back so as to put me out of the immediate reach of a crinos--just in case. And then Slug turned up a few minutes later.
Slug looked like shit. He and some other garou tackled some Spirals, went umbral, and plowed face-first into a bunch of burrowing banes. (Trap. Good to know that they're using that strategy now.) Silvertip saved the day by summoning up a bunch of elementals to thump on the banes.
The DNA rescue operation? The garou's end didn't go nearly as smoothly as the end Silvertip and I handled. It sounds like the security forces for DNA had a disagreement with how to handle the garou, and they ended up shooting at one another while Slug was working on partnering with one side. It was a little muddled as to what happened, but apparently no one--human, captive, or guards--died. I'll chalk that up as a win! It sounded like the man they rescued couldn't be salvaged--too far gone. He didn't mention the two wolves, so I'm hoping they're okay. DNA is apparently trying to cure lycanthropy. They think the garou are sick. A disease. Interesting. I suspect, at the root of all of this, is some wealthy guy who had a lost cub as a son or daughter. Or is one himself and is seeking a cure. That makes sense. I can't see anyone else investing this much time/money. Not without a supernatural influence, at least. Speculation, Nick. You're just wildly speculating at this point.
I asked about writings on the walls. Slug confirmed he'd gotten some. I admitted to having had a pair myself. Slug said he'd post something asking sept members who had writings and what they said. I asked him to not mention me being a dual-recipient, as I was hoping I was not the only kinfolk *coughcough* to get them. And I pushed that concern off as me just being very active in supporting the garou, so I might have gotten some special treatment when it came to those messages. He seemed to buy that explanation. I don't need people going "Why is Nick the only kinfolk getting these messages.
I'm rambling. I need sleep. Then I'm off to Portland to meet up with those Hollow Ones.
