The umbral wards around my cabin are almost in place. One more night ought to do the trick. I'm excited about finally having some defensive protection AND an early warning system in place. I don't think I'll feel quite so vulnerable in the future. Plus? In doing this, I've really pushed my knowledge of Correspondence warding and integration with other spheres. I've learned a lot, and this sort of thing ought to be easier in the future.
I bumped into Riley at the Farmhouse last night. She's trying to learn a new gift that gives her unlimited ammo in a clip. That would be spectacular with an MP-5 submachinegun! But her gun kept jamming on her and it eventually explosively disassembled itself. All in all, it was a good chat, as I hadn't seen her around in a while. I invited her to call me up sometime so we could head out to the Walker's forest property and she could show cougar-me how to move a little more stealthily. (Sure, I could cheat and use magick, but I'd like to learn the non-cheat methods.)
I ran into Slug a couple days ago. We talked about the info package he'd shared earlier--he was doing a crap-ton of speculation about the black ooze and how it was magick that affected ideas. Anti-thought that somehow boiled over and also erased matter. (That's possible, but not necessarily feasible.) I was right: he'd found the document at The Hermitage's library. He claimed the note hadn't been there in the library before. I asked to see the original and he seemed to be lying a bit when he said he wasn't sure where he'd placed the original. (Hunch: He gave it to Ila to look at.) I asked if he got it from a mage. He said no. He talked briefly about mages and I nudged him for more thoughts and opinions about them, specifically if he knew anyone at the sept who'd try to kill one. He gave a roundabout answer about how he doesn't know everyone's past experiences and someone could have had a bad run-in. I kind of suspect that I could come out as a mage to the sept--and live to tell the tale. Although I'm concerned that'd potentially hurt Mouse, Salem, and Jacinta's standing with the sept. And it would suck to get banned from the caern. And I suspect there might be a traitor in the sept's members. That'd paint a giant target on my head. Aaaaanyway. Slug said he'd drop off the original copy for me at the Hermitage. I figure if I can get my hands on that, if it really did just appear one day, I can use some magick to track back who wrote it and how it got there.
A week earlier, Val had sent me a cellphone pic of a variety of glyphs--garou-based from what Flint had taught me earlier about their writing system--that'd been chalked all over Harbor Park. When I went to Harbor Park a few days later, I ran into the homeless guy I'd seen once before (Ramos), and he was marking the park up with the chalk. I scanned him--garou, not Wyrmy--went over and barked at him to cut it out and asked who he was with. (Putting those glyphs all over the park is just painting a big-ass target on the place.) I got a non-answer from him and then this woman came over and told me to lay off the guy. Then it came out that he was leaving the messages for her because she hadn't shared contact information with him. And I could see she was garou and not wyrmy too, so I again asked what families everyone was with and names as well. They both gave me the runaround--and then Ghost jumped the girl (Mack) because she'd had a throwing knife in her hand. They started fighting, so I hit them with a rudimentary mind effect, adding weight to my command for them to stop. Thankfully it worked before they started drawing attention or someone frenzied and/or shifted. I asked again for names and familiar affiliation, and I went ahead and offered mine--just to drive a point home. AGAIN got a half-assed answer out of both of them and refusals when I asked to take pictures of them to show to the park's patrollers. I figured they were both anruth, used the whole "respect the territory of another" Litany clause on them, and I pointed at the city and told them both to get out of the park until they could give me a straight answer. Mack was all "eff this" and stormed off. Ramos pulled a jesus-on-the-cross pose, which I took a picture of anyway, and then he left. I forwarded the picture of Ramos and a police-style sketch of Mack to the rest of the Walkers along with a note as to what had transpired and an apology if I'd overstepped my bounds.
Tonight I had an interesting discussion with Quoz about the caern totems. He favors Gyhldeptis, the Wyld aspect. He fears Aahn. He thought it was unusual that a kin would be so interested in this sort of thing and then asked me what caern totem was my favorite. I told him the diplomatic answer would be "all three" but, truth be told, Aahn is more appealing. Quoz is genuinely frightened of Aahn because he instantly incinerated a Gnawer, Becky, after she'd been found guilty of killing people who'd wasted food. She'd killed them and eaten them. Yeah. Wow. I can see how that wasn't spread very far among the kin.
Been getting some quality time in here and there with Emma. I'm worried I might lose her in this upcoming fight. I can't shield her from radiation. The only mage I know with that level of command over Forces is Peter Kenward. But he's been in an insane asylum for nearly 20 years now, and he only has very brief and sporadic moments of lucidity. I wonder.... I wonder if I might be able to use some Mind magick to try and pull him out. I'm afraid he might pull me down with him, though.
